A sustainable strategy for Open Streets in (post)pandemic cities

چکیده
Abstract Cities world-wide have taken the opportunity presented by COVID-19 pandemic to improve and expand pedestrian infrastructure, providing residents with a sense of relief pursuing long-standing goals decrease automobile dependence increase walkability. So far, due scarcity data methodological shortcomings, these efforts lacked system-level view treating sidewalks as network. Here, we leverage sidewalk from ten cities in three continents, first analyse distribution roadbed geometries, find that present an unbalanced public space, favouring automobiles at expense pedestrians. Next, connect geometries build network –adjacent, but irreducible road Finally, compare no-intervention scenario shared-effort heuristic, relation performance infrastructures guarantee physical distancing. The heuristic prevents connectivity breakdown, while preserving network’s functionality.

Sustainable Trees for Sustainable Cities
The idea of sustainable cities is linked to an older concept of sustainable plant communities. The theoretical basis for both is a closed system where everything is continuously recycled. Natural resources are renewed rather than depleted. In undisturbed natural areas a kind of sustainability is achieved through the natural cycles of the biosphere. However, this kind of sustainability for trees...
متن کاملRandomized Strategy for Walking in Streets for a Simple Robot
We consider the problem of walking in an unknown street, for a robot that has a minimal sensing capability. The robot is equipped with a sensor that only detects the discontinuities in depth information (gaps) and can locate the target point as enters in its visibility region. First, we propose an online deterministic search strategy that generates an optimal search path for the simple robot to...

متن کاملMcPherson: Selecting Reference Cities for i-Tree Streets
The i-Tree Streets (formerly STRATUM) computer program quantifies municipal forest structure, function, and value using tree growth and geographic data from sixteen U.S. reference cities, one for each of sixteen climate zones. Selecting the reference city that best matches a subject city is problematic when the subject city is outside the U.S., lays on the border between two climate zones, has ...
